More
than 150 golfers recently participated in the 2007 Molly Invitational
sponsored by The MOLLY Foundation for Diabetes Research, The MOLLY
Center for Children with Diabetes and Endocrine Disorders, and
The MOLLY Diabetes Center for Adults at Hackensack University Medical
Center. This year’s event,
held at Tuxedo Country Club, netted $50,000 for juvenile and adult
diabetes research.
“I’m very appreciative of the support that I have received from each
and every person who participated in this year’s event,” said Nicholas
Minicucci of Allendale, president and founder of the MOLLY Foundation for Diabetes
Research. “The money raised today will be used to better our future.”
Nicholas Minicucci, Jr. founded The MOLLY Foundation after his nine-year-old
daughter, Molly, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Doctors told her that
if she watched her diet and gave herself a daily injection of insulin, she would
be able to lead a normal life. More than twenty years after Molly’s diagnosis,
the Minicuccis’ commitment to diabetes research continues today with the
foundation and The MOLLY Center for Children with Diabetes and Endocrine Disorders
at Hackensack University Medical Center.
After a buffet lunch was served, golfers hit the course for a shotgun start.
The day concluded with a reception and a silent auction that included numerous
items, such as autographed sports memorabilia, posters, candles, and electronics.
Diabetes is a lifelong disease that can impact a person’s physical, social,
and psychological well-being. More than one million children in the United States
have Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. In recent years, type 2 Diabetes has been on
the rise in children, a disease that normally affects adults.
Hackensack University Medical Center, a teaching and research hospital affiliated
with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - New Jersey Medical
School and a member of the New Jersey Council of Teaching Hospitals, is the largest
provider of inpatient and outpatient services in the state of New Jersey. The
medical center is also the recipient of the Consumer Choice Award for seven consecutive
years. Based on a national survey by the National Research Corporation of 140,000
households to determine the leading hospitals in the country, the medical center
was named as the hospital of choice in Bergen and Passaic counties for quality
of staff, community programs, personalized care, and overall reputation.
Hackensack
University Medical Center is one of the first two hospitals in the
nation to receive The Governor’s Gold Award for Performance
Excellence. The Quality New Jersey’s 2001 award is based on
the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award established by the U.S.
Congress in 1987 to improve organizational performance and to enhance
the nation’s ability in the global marketplace. This is the
highest award level and indicative that the medical center has sound
systematic approaches and fact-based improvement processes in place.
